Yes. Superwhisper has a free plan with no time limit and no word cap: it gives unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, custom vocabulary, text replacements and up to two modes without AI processing. The limits are on features, not words. AI formatting, cloud and Parakeet models, file transcription and realtime transcription are Pro, which costs $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once, as of 3 October 2026.
Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.

On the same page Superwhisper says of the Free plan: "Nothing you dictate leaves your device." Is Superwhisper safe and local? explains what that covers.
Where does the free plan stop?
It stops at the point where you want the app to do more than write down what you said. On Free, you hold a key, talk, and get a plain transcript from a local Whisper model. You do not get:
- AI rewriting. Modes such as Super and Mail, which reshape dictation into an email or a message, are Pro.
- Other speech models. Cloud models, Parakeet and Cohere Transcribe are Pro.
- Recordings. File transcription, system audio recording and speaker separation are Pro.
- More than two modes.
There is no weekly word allowance on Free, so heavy dictation alone never forces an upgrade.
Is there a free trial of Superwhisper Pro?
Not a timed one. Superwhisper's plans page says new users get 3,000 words of free access to all Pro features, and "When that runs out, the app falls back to the Free plan; nothing is deleted." Use those words on the AI modes, because that is what you would be paying for.
If you do pay, Superwhisper's refund policy gives a 30-day window from the date of first purchase for monthly, annual and lifetime plans bought on superwhisper.com. Renewal charges are not refundable on their own. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by Apple or Google.
What do you pay if you outgrow Free?
As of 3 October 2026, from the plans page:
| Pro billing | Price |
|---|---|
| Monthly | $8.49 a month |
| Annual | $84.99 a year |
| Lifetime | $249.99 once |
Superwhisper says "Every plan includes the same features; only the billing differs." One Pro licence covers unlimited Macs and Windows PCs plus your iPhone and Android phone. Verified students, educators and non-profits can ask for 40% off before buying. Buying inside the iPhone or Android app costs more. Superwhisper pricing has a three-year cost table.
What are the free alternatives?
- Apple Dictation. Already on your Mac: choose Apple menu → System Settings → Keyboard, go to Dictation and turn it on, per Apple's Dictation guide (macOS 27; on older versions look for Dictation in Keyboard settings). Apple says you can dictate any length of text without a timeout, and Dictation stops after 30 seconds with no speech. How to use voice to text on a Mac has the steps.
- Spokenly's local models, Handy, MacWhisper Free. Each is free in a different way; Best free dictation app for Mac sets them side by side.
Superwhisper Free is itself one of the strongest free options for push-to-talk dictation, so many readers can stop here.
Where does SuprFlow fit?
SuprFlow, which publishes this page, is not free: it costs $125 for lifetime access on up to five Macs you own, with no subscription and a 7-day refund on a first purchase. There is no free tier or trial. Speech recognition runs on the Mac with an on-device model, and Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers. It is the wrong choice if Superwhisper Free already does the job, or if you want AI modes, file transcription, or Windows and phone apps. SuprFlow vs Superwhisper compares them.
