What does Willow Voice do?

Willow replaces typing with speaking in whatever app you are using. You trigger it with a shortcut, talk, and Willow sends the audio to its cloud models, which return formatted text that is placed where you are typing. Willow's homepage lists context-aware formatting (adjusting the result to the app and what is on screen), a dictionary that learns your words, style matching and smart formatting on top of the transcription.

Willow Scribe is its AI writing feature; the free plan allows 20 uses a week and Pro makes it unlimited. Pro also switches you from the Frontier Mini speech model to what Willow calls its "smartest speech-to-text model (Frontier Pro)", with priority transcription and longer dictations.

On data handling, Willow says Private Mode is on by default. Its help article says that in Private Mode "No dictated text is collected", and that "Your Transcript History is stored only on your device". The same article explains the choice of cloud processing: "On-device models cannot match this level of performance right now."

Who is Willow Voice for?

Based on Willow's own pages, it suits people who:

  • write a lot across apps and want finished, formatted text rather than a raw transcript;
  • use a Mac alongside Windows or an iPhone;
  • want to start free and upgrade only if the free model is not enough;
  • are allowed to use a US cloud service for their dictation, with a no-retention default;
  • buy for a team that needs admin controls, an enforced privacy mode, SOC 2 Type II reporting or HIPAA support, which Willow lists on its Business and Enterprise tiers.

Who may want something else?

These reasons come from Willow's own pages:

  • Your rules say audio must stay on the device or outside the US. Willow says it runs on cloud infrastructure in the United States. It lists an offline mode, but the pages we read do not explain which model it uses or on which plans; our Willow safety guide covers that gap.
  • You use Android. The pricing page marks Android "coming soon".
  • You want to pay once. Willow lists monthly and annual subscriptions only.
  • You want open-source code. Willow does not publish it.

How does Willow Voice compare?

Where does SuprFlow fit?

SuprFlow, which publishes this page, takes a different trade-off: local speech on the Mac with an on-device model, and one payment ($125 lifetime access for up to 5 Macs you own, a 7-day refund on a first purchase, no subscription). Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers. Optional cloud formatting sends transcript text, not audio, to the provider you pick.

SuprFlow is the wrong choice if you want a free plan or trial, Windows or iPhone apps, AI writing features like Scribe, team admin controls, or a vendor with a SOC 2 report and BAA. Willow lists those and SuprFlow does not have them. If Willow's free plan works for your voice and your data rules allow cloud processing, it costs nothing to keep using.

Questions people ask

Is Willow Voice free?

There is a free plan. As of 3 October 2026, Willow's pricing page lists Basic at no cost with unlimited use of the weaker Frontier Mini model and 20 Scribe uses a week. Willow's help centre shows a different free limit in one chart, which our Willow Voice pricing page explains.

Is Willow Voice safe?

Willow says Private Mode is on by default, that dictated text is not collected in that mode, that transcript history stays on your device, and that its security controls are independently audited. Your speech is still processed in its US cloud. Is Willow Voice safe? sets out what its pages say and do not say.

Does Willow Voice work offline?

Willow's homepage lists an offline mode: "Dictate without an internet connection, powered entirely by your device." In normal use it transcribes in the cloud, and its pages do not explain the offline mode in detail, so test it on your plan before relying on it.

How much is Willow Voice?

As of 3 October 2026, Pro is $15 per user a month or $12 a month billed annually, Business is $35 a month or $28 billed annually, and Enterprise is custom. See Willow Voice pricing for a three-year cost table.
