Willow Voice vs Typeless (2026): free plans, editing and price

Willow and Typeless are both cloud dictation apps at $12 a month billed yearly. Compare free plans, monthly prices, Linux and Android, editing and privacy.

Choose Willow if you want a free plan you can dictate on as much as you like with a lighter model, month-to-month billing at $15, and Scribe for turning a rough spoken request into finished writing. Choose Typeless if you want to edit and translate selected text by voice, need Linux or Android, and will pay yearly. Both send your speech to a cloud service, both say they do not train on your dictation by default, and both cost $12 a month on annual billing as of 3 October 2026. What separates them is how the free plan is limited, what the monthly price is, and which platforms and editing tools you get.

Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.

We have not run a controlled benchmark of either app, so nothing here says which is more accurate.

Who should pick which?

  • You want to stay free and dictate a lot: Willow, whose pricing page lists unlimited use of its lighter Frontier Mini model. Typeless Free has "limited words each week".
  • You want to pay month to month: Willow, at $15 against Typeless's $30.
  • You use Linux or Android: Typeless lists both. Willow lists Android as "Coming soon".
  • You want to edit or translate selected text by voice: Typeless.
  • You want a draft from a rough spoken request: Willow Scribe.
  • You work offline: neither is a safe bet. Willow's pages disagree on offline use (see below); Typeless describes none.

How do the free plans really differ?

They are limited in opposite ways. Willow's pricing page limits the model, not the words: Free uses Frontier Mini, Pro unlocks Frontier Pro. Typeless limits the words each week but does not print the number on its pricing page, so check the counter in the app.

One caution on Willow: its plans overview, dated 9 July 2026, lists a Free limit of "2,000 per week", which the pricing page does not mention. The same article lists "Offline dictation" under Individual Pro, while the privacy policy, updated 5 August 2026, describes cloud processing and does not mention offline use. If either point matters, test it in the app before you pay. Is Willow Voice safe? covers the privacy settings.

What does each cost over three years?

List prices as of 3 October 2026, one person, USD, before tax, assuming prices do not change.

OptionYear 1After 3 years
Willow Basic (free)$0$0
Typeless Free$0$0
Willow Pro, annual$144$432
Typeless Pro, yearly$144$432
Willow Pro, monthly$180$540
Typeless Pro, monthly$360$1,080

On yearly billing they cost the same; billed monthly, Typeless costs twice as much. Neither lists a one-time licence. Willow Voice pricing and Typeless pricing cover student discounts and where each company's pages differ.

Choose Willow if…

  • You want unlimited free dictation and can accept the lighter model.
  • You prefer month-to-month billing.
  • Scribe's draft-from-a-request feature appeals to you.
  • Your team wants Private Mode enforced on a Business plan.

Choose Typeless if…

  • You use Linux, Android, or all five listed platforms.
  • You want to rewrite, shorten or translate selected text by voice.
  • You often mix languages or translate as you speak.
  • You will pay yearly once the free plan convinces you.

How do you test both in 15 minutes?

Both are free to start. Use made-up content so nothing private is sent anywhere.

  1. Install both (4 minutes). Allow Microphone and Accessibility. Willow uses Fn by default, so give Typeless a different key or test one at a time.
  2. Dictate a rambling note into your mail app (4 minutes). "Hi Marisol, so, um, the brochure files are ready. Actually the cover still needs the new logo. Print run is 4,250, no wait, 4,520 copies. Send proofs to Dmitri by Wednesday the 21st."
  3. Check both names, the corrected number, the date, and that "the cover still needs the new logo" survived the cleanup.
  4. Try each app's extra (4 minutes). In Typeless, select the paragraph and ask it to make it shorter. In Willow, ask Scribe for a two-line reply declining a meeting.
  5. Turn Wi-Fi off and dictate one sentence (3 minutes). Note what each does on your plan.

Fewer corrections, with your meaning intact, decides it.

A third option

Both apps send audio to a cloud service. If you would rather have speech recognised on your Mac, SuprFlow runs recognition on the Mac with an on-device model; Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers, and optional cloud formatting sends transcript text, not audio, to the provider you pick. It costs $125 once for lifetime access on up to five Macs you own, with a 7-day refund on a first purchase. It is the wrong choice if you want a free plan or trial, translation, voice editing, drafting, or Windows, Linux or phone apps: it is Mac only (Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later) and not open source.
