Wispr Flow and Typeless do the same core job: you speak, a cloud service transcribes and tidies what you said, and polished text appears in the app you are using. Choose Wispr Flow if you want to pay month to month, need team features or a meeting Notetaker, or need audit reports for a security review. Choose Typeless if you use Linux, want to edit selected text by voice, or prefer a service that states it never uses dictation for training without you changing a setting. On annual billing both cost $12 a month; on monthly billing Wispr Flow is $15 and Typeless is $30.
Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 1 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.
We have not run a controlled benchmark of either product. What follows is each company's own description, and a test you can run on both free plans.
Who should pick which?
- You want to pay monthly and cancel when a project ends: Wispr Flow, at half the monthly price.
- You use Linux: Typeless lists a Linux desktop app. Wispr says Linux is not supported.
- You want meeting notes as well as dictation: Wispr Flow, for its Notetaker.
- You want to select text and tell the app to shorten, translate or rewrite it: Typeless documents this as "Ask anything". Wispr's own comparison page describes voice editing on Mac and Windows on paid plans.
- You want no training on your dictation as the stated default: Typeless. In Wispr Flow it is a setting you turn off.
- Your company needs SOC 2 Type II and SSO below the enterprise tier: Wispr Flow.

How does the price really compare?
List prices as of 1 October 2026, one person, before tax, assuming prices do not change.
| Option | 1 month | 1 year | 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wispr Flow Free | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Typeless Free | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Wispr Flow Pro, monthly billing | $15 | $180 | $540 |
| Typeless Pro, monthly billing | $30 | $360 | $1,080 |
| Wispr Flow Pro, annual billing | n/a | $144 | $432 |
| Typeless Pro, annual billing | n/a | $144 | $432 |
Typeless is priced for annual commitment. If you are not sure you will still be dictating in six months, Wispr Flow's monthly plan is the cheaper way to find out. Neither company lists a one-time or lifetime licence. Wispr's regional prices differ from the USD list; see Wispr Flow pricing.
Typeless's pricing page does not publish the size of its free weekly allowance, so check the counter in the app. Wispr publishes its limit and how the cap behaves; see Is Wispr Flow free?.
How do the privacy positions differ?
Both are cloud services. With either one, your audio leaves your Mac to be transcribed, and both say their third-party AI providers are barred from training on it.
Typeless's Data Controls page, updated 25 August 2026, states a zero-retention position as standard: audio is not stored, dictation is not used for training, and history stays on your device unless you turn on cloud sync. It names one exception: if you submit feedback, diagnostic information is collected, and text is used to improve the product only with your explicit consent.
Wispr's security overview gives you the same end state through settings: turn off "Improve the model for everyone" and Dictation Cloud Storage under Settings → Data and Privacy. The defaults for Free and Pro have model improvement on. Wispr makes a SOC 2 Type II report and an ISO 27001 certificate available through its Trust Center. Is Wispr Flow safe? walks through each setting.
These are each company's published statements. We have not audited either service.
Choose Wispr Flow if…
- You want month-to-month billing at $15.
- You want the Notetaker for meetings.
- You are setting up a team and want shared dictionaries on Pro, or SSO on Growth.
- Your reviewer wants a SOC 2 Type II report.
Choose Typeless if…
- You work on Linux, or on all five listed platforms.
- You want voice commands on selected text, and translation as you speak.
- You want no-training and no-audio-storage as the published standard.
- You are ready to pay annually.
- You often mix languages; Typeless says you can "speak in any language or mix them". Wispr's known-limitations article says Flow records one detected language per dictation.
How do you test both in 15 minutes?
Both free plans work without paying. Use made-up text.
- Install both (4 minutes). Sign in and grant the permissions each asks for. Note each app's shortcut so they do not clash.
- Dictate a messy message in each (4 minutes). "Hey Farah, so, um, the report is basically done, I think. Actually it needs two more charts. Send it to Oskar by the 19th, no wait, the 20th. Budget stays at 31,500 dollars."
- Compare the output. Check the names, the date correction and the amount. Then check that the tidy-up did not change your meaning: is "it needs two more charts" still there?
- Try your own jargon (5 minutes). Two sentences with names and terms from your work. Add misses to each dictionary and retry.
- Review settings (2 minutes). In Wispr Flow, open Settings → Data and Privacy. In Typeless, look for history and cloud sync options.
The app that needed fewer corrections and kept your meaning is the right one for your writing.
A third option
If the cloud is the sticking point with both, the alternative is an app that recognises speech on the Mac. SuprFlow is one example: Mac only, Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later, $125 once. Its default formatting runs on the Mac and covers punctuation, capitalisation and number tidying. Optional formatting through a provider you configure sends the transcript text, not the audio, to that provider. It has no free tier, no phone, Windows or Linux app and no team features, so it is not a like-for-like replacement. Free local apps are listed in Free Wispr Flow alternatives, and SuprFlow vs Typeless covers that pairing.
Questions people ask
Is Typeless cheaper than Wispr Flow?
Only on annual billing, where they match at $12 a month. Paid monthly, Typeless is $30 and Wispr Flow is $15.
Is Typeless or Wispr Flow better for privacy?
Both process speech in the cloud. Typeless states no storage of audio and no training as standard. Wispr offers switches for training and storage, with training on by default for Free and Pro, and publishes more audit documentation. Which matters more depends on your requirements.
Does Typeless or Wispr Flow work offline?
Neither. Both state that transcription happens in the cloud. For offline options see Offline voice to text on Mac.
