Typeless vs Aqua Voice (2026): voice editing or lowest price?

Typeless edits and translates by voice on five platforms. Aqua Voice is the cheaper cloud dictation plan with Realtime Mode. Compare price, privacy defaults and setup.

Choose Typeless if you want the app to do more than transcribe: rewrite or shorten selected text by voice, translate as you speak, and run on Linux and Android as well as Mac, Windows and iPhone. Choose Aqua Voice if you mainly want clean dictation at a low price: Pro is $10 a month or $8 billed annually, against Typeless's $30 or $12, as of 3 October 2026, and Aqua lists Intel Macs. Both transcribe in the cloud. Beyond features and price, they differ in what they keep by default: Typeless says it stores no audio as standard but always sends some on-screen context, while Aqua leaves screen reading off but starts with Privacy Mode off.

Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.

We have not run a controlled benchmark of either app. Typeless publishes its own speed figures; we have not checked them and do not repeat them.

Who should pick which?

  • You want voice commands on selected text, or translation: Typeless.
  • You want the lowest monthly bill for unlimited dictation: Aqua Pro.
  • You want a free tier that renews: Typeless Free has a weekly word allowance. Aqua's 1,000 free words are a one-off trial.
  • You use Linux or Android: Typeless lists both. Aqua lists Android on a waitlist.
  • You use an Intel Mac: Aqua lists Apple Silicon and Intel. Typeless's pages we read list macOS without naming a chip.

Which defaults send or keep more?

Typeless keeps nothing by default but reads more. Its Data Controls page, updated 25 August 2026, says audio and context are "immediately discarded once the result is returned to your device" and that it keeps "zero retention" agreements with its AI providers. But each dictation goes to the cloud with the name of the app you are in and relevant text from it, and the page does not describe a setting that turns this off. Is Typeless safe? covers what the page leaves open.

Aqua reads less by default but may keep more. Deep Context, its screen reading, starts off. Privacy Mode also starts off, which its product summary says means transcripts may be stored to improve the product. Turn Privacy Mode on first; Aqua says session metadata such as timestamps and device type may still be collected. Is Aqua Voice safe? has the details.

What does each cost over three years?

List prices as of 3 October 2026, one person, USD, before tax, assuming prices do not change.

OptionYear 1After 3 years
Typeless Free$0$0
Aqua Pro, annual$96$288
Aqua Pro, month-to-month$120$360
Typeless Pro, yearly$144$432
Aqua Max, annual$288$864
Typeless Pro, monthly$360$1,080

At $30 a month, Aqua Max and monthly Typeless Pro cost the same, so the question becomes Realtime Mode or voice editing. Neither offers a general refund window; start monthly if unsure. Typeless pricing and Aqua Voice pricing list student discounts.

  • You want to edit, shorten or translate text by voice.
  • You use Linux or Android, or want one tool on five platforms.
  • You want a free tier that renews each week.
  • You prefer no storage of audio as the standard, without settings.

  • You want the cheapest unlimited cloud dictation.
  • You use an Intel Mac.
  • You want screen reading off unless you turn it on.
  • You want Realtime Mode or a SOC 2 report.

How do you test both in 15 minutes?

Aqua's 1,000 words and Typeless Free are enough. Use made-up content.

  1. Install both (4 minutes). Allow Microphone and Accessibility. Turn on Privacy Mode in Aqua. Aqua uses Fn; check that Typeless uses a different key.
  2. Dictate a rambling note into your mail app (4 minutes). "Hey Bartholomew, so, um, the workshop is set. Actually we still need a projector. Seats are 36, no, 38. Invoice Nkechi for 1,740 dollars by Tuesday the 15th."
  3. Check both names, the corrected number, the amount, the date, and that "we still need a projector" survived.
  4. Try each app's extra (4 minutes). In Typeless, select the text and say "make it shorter". In Aqua, dictate the same note into a chat app and see how its formatting changes to match the app.

Fewer corrections, with your meaning intact, decides it.

A third option

Both apps transcribe in the cloud. If you want speech recognised on your Mac instead, SuprFlow runs recognition on the Mac with an on-device model; Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers, and optional cloud formatting sends transcript text, not audio, to the provider you pick. It costs $125 once for lifetime access on up to five Macs you own, with a 7-day refund on a first purchase and no subscription. It is the wrong choice if you want a free tier or trial, voice editing, translation, Realtime Mode, an Intel Mac, or Windows, Linux or phone apps: it is Mac only (Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later) and not open source. SuprFlow vs Typeless and SuprFlow vs Aqua Voice compare them.
