Typeless Pro is worth paying for if you regularly hit the free plan's weekly word limit, like the way Typeless turns rambling speech into finished text, use it on several platforms (it lists Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android), and are happy to pay yearly. It is probably not worth paying for if the free allowance covers you, if you would only pay month to month ($30 a month against $12 a month billed yearly), if you need dictation without internet, or if you want to pay once. The free plan includes most of the features, so you can decide with the 15-minute test below.
Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 1 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.
This is not a review and there is no score. We make a competing Mac app, and we have not run a controlled test of Typeless's accuracy or speed. What follows is what Typeless documents, who that suits, and how to judge it yourself.
What do you get, according to Typeless?
As of 1 October 2026. Sources: Typeless pricing, Dictate guide, Data Controls and homepage.
| Area | What Typeless documents |
|---|---|
| Price | Free: $0 with "Limited words". Pro: $12 per member a month billed yearly, or $30 billed monthly. Enterprise: custom. |
| Free plan | Limited words each week, standard accuracy, standard access during high demand, plus translation, "Ask anything", personal style and tone, personal dictionary, 100+ languages, tones per app and whisper mode. |
| What Pro adds | Unlimited words, enhanced accuracy, priority access during high demand, cloud sync across devices, team management, centralized billing and team usage analytics. |
| What Enterprise adds | SSO, SCIM, domain verification, audit logs, enforced HIPAA controls. |
| Platforms | macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. |
| How it works on a Mac | Press Fn once, speak, press Fn again; polished text appears where you started. |
| Privacy | Cloud transcription, no stored audio, no training on dictation. Details in Is Typeless safe?. |
The strengths are breadth on the free plan, five platforms, voice editing of selected text, and a no-training position that needs no settings changes.
What limits does Typeless document?
- It needs the cloud. "Transcription is performed on the cloud," says the Data Controls page. The pages we read describe no offline mode.
- The free word limit is not printed. The pricing page says "Limited words" and does not give the weekly number; the app shows it.
- Monthly billing is expensive. $30 a month is $360 a year, against $144 billed yearly.
- Refunds are narrow. The terms say "Refunds will only be issued when legally required or in accordance with the applicable third-party app store's refund policies."
- It rewrites by design. Typeless describes turning "messy thoughts into polished writing". That is the point of the product, and it also means you should check that the result still says what you meant.
Who is Typeless worth it for, and who should choose something else?
| If this is you | A sensible choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You dictate a few messages a day and never see the limit | Typeless Free | Most features are on the free plan. |
| You dictate for hours a week and like the rewritten output | Typeless Pro, yearly | Unlimited words at $144 a year. |
| You need it for one short project | Pro monthly for a month or two, or another monthly app | Yearly billing is a $144 commitment with narrow refunds. |
| You use Linux as well as a Mac | Typeless | It lists a Linux app alongside Mac, Windows and phones. |
| You want your exact words, not a polished version | A dictation app with a plain transcription mode | Typeless is built to rewrite what you say into polished text. |
| You often work without internet | A local Mac app | Typeless transcribes in the cloud. |
| A rule says audio must stay on the device | A local Mac app | Typeless's no-storage policy does not change where recognition happens. |
| You dislike subscriptions and only use a Mac | A one-time purchase | See Typeless alternatives. |
Where SuprFlow fits, honestly: it is a Mac-only app for Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later that runs speech recognition on the Mac, with local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers rather than a full rewrite. It costs $125 once for up to five Macs you own, with a 7-day refund on a first purchase. It has no free tier, no trial, no translation, no voice editing of selected text and no apps for other platforms. If you want any of those, Typeless is the better choice. SuprFlow vs Typeless sets them side by side.
How can you test Typeless in 15 minutes before paying?
Use the free plan. The script is fictional, so nothing private is sent anywhere.
- Install and set up (3 minutes). Download from typeless.com, drag Typeless to Applications, sign in, and allow Accessibility and Microphone.
- Dictate a rambling note (2 minutes). In your mail app, press Fn and say: "Hey Ngozi, so the launch is, um, basically ready. Actually the pricing page still needs work. Move the review to the 23rd, no wait, the 24th. Budget stays at 48,200 dollars. Thanks, Arjun." Press Fn again.
- Check meaning, not only spelling. Is "the pricing page still needs work" still there? Is the date 24th? Is the figure right?
- Dictate into your hardest app (3 minutes). A browser form, chat app or code editor.
- Try your vocabulary (3 minutes). Two sentences with a colleague's surname, a product name and an acronym. Add misses to the dictionary and retry.
- Try Ask anything (2 minutes). Select a fictional paragraph and ask Typeless to shorten it.
- Count your fixes (2 minutes). Note how many corrections each passage needed, and check the weekly word counter.
Run the same script with Apple Dictation and one other app on your shortlist. How to run a fair Mac dictation comparison has a fuller method.
Pay for Pro, yearly, if you expect to pass the free limit most weeks and the rewritten text needed fewer fixes than the alternatives.
Questions people ask
Is Typeless good?
We have not benchmarked it, so we will not rate it. Typeless documents rewriting into polished text, translation, voice editing and apps on five platforms. Run the test above with your own voice.
Is Typeless any good for coding prompts or technical writing?
Test it on your own vocabulary. Typeless describes turning speech into polished writing, so check names, commands and numbers in the result before relying on it, and add recurring terms to the dictionary.
Is Typeless Pro worth it over the free plan?
Only if you hit the weekly word limit or need cloud sync or team features. The editing features are on Free.
Can I get a refund if Typeless is not worth it for me?
Typeless's terms say refunds are issued only when legally required or under an app store's refund policy. You can cancel at any time, so a month of monthly billing is a safer first step than a year.
