Wispr Flow is a voice-to-text app for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, made by Wispr AI, Inc. You hold a shortcut, speak, and it puts cleaned-up text into the app you are typing in. Its own homepage calls it "the voice-to-text AI that turns speech into clear, polished writing in every app". Speech is transcribed in Wispr's cloud, and there is a free plan with a weekly word limit plus paid subscriptions.
Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.

What does Wispr Flow do?
In plain terms, Wispr Flow replaces typing with talking in the apps you already use. On a Mac you press and hold a shortcut, say what you want to write, and release. The audio goes to Wispr's servers, is turned into text, tidied up (filler words removed, punctuation added, style adjusted to the context), and the finished text appears where your cursor is. Wispr's homepage says it "works anywhere you can type, with no plugins required".
Around that core, Wispr documents a personal dictionary that remembers unusual names and words, text snippets for phrases you repeat, and styles that range from formal to very casual. A separate product, the Notetaker, records and summarises meetings on Mac and Windows. Because the service is account-based, one subscription covers your Mac, PC and phone, and team plans add shared dictionaries, central billing and admin controls.
Wispr also documents a model-training setting. Its security overview says "Improve the model for everyone" is on by default for Free and Pro accounts and can be turned off; it is off on Enterprise. Our Wispr Flow safety guide covers the settings in detail.
Who is Wispr Flow for?
Based on what Wispr documents, it is built for people who:
- write a lot across many apps and want speech turned into finished-looking text rather than a raw transcript;
- use more than one device, for example a Mac at work and an Android phone, and want one account across them;
- want meeting notes from the same vendor as their dictation;
- buy for a team and need SSO, provisioning or audit logs, which Wispr lists on its Growth and Enterprise plans, or a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement, which its HIPAA article says Growth and Enterprise include and individual users can also sign;
- are allowed to send work audio to a vetted cloud vendor in the US.
Who may want something else?
These reasons come from Wispr's own documentation, not from our opinion of the product:
- You need dictation without an internet connection. Wispr's known-limitations article says "Dictation is transcribed in the cloud", so each dictation depends on a connection. See Does Wispr Flow work offline?
- Your rules say audio must stay on the device or outside the US. Wispr says it is a cloud service, not an on-premise deployment, and that it processes and stores customer data in the US.
- You want to pay once. Wispr's pricing page lists monthly and annual subscriptions only.
- You want to inspect or modify the source code. Wispr does not publish it.
How does Wispr Flow compare?

Where does SuprFlow fit?
SuprFlow, which publishes this page, takes a different trade-off: speech recognition runs on the Mac with an on-device model, and you pay once ($125 lifetime access, up to 5 Macs you own, with a 7-day refund on a first purchase and no subscription). Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers. Optional cloud formatting sends transcript text, not audio, to the provider you pick.
SuprFlow is the wrong choice if you need Windows, iPhone or Android, a meeting recorder, file transcription, a free plan or trial, team admin controls, or a vendor that can show audit reports and sign a BAA. Wispr lists all of those and SuprFlow has none of them. SuprFlow vs Wispr Flow sets the two side by side.
Questions people ask
Is Wispr Flow free?
There is a free plan. As of 3 October 2026, Flow Free costs $0 and allows 2,000 words a week on desktop and 1,000 on mobile, according to Wispr's pricing page. Unlimited dictation needs Pro. Details are in Is Wispr Flow free?
Is Wispr Flow safe?
Wispr publishes a privacy policy, data controls, encryption details, audit reports through its Trust Center and a HIPAA BAA option, and it says your audio is transcribed in its cloud. Whether that is acceptable depends on your data rules. We summarise its own statements, and where its pages disagree, in Is Wispr Flow safe?
Does Wispr Flow work offline?
No. Wispr's help centre says dictation is transcribed in the cloud, and its security overview says Wispr Flow is a cloud service rather than an on-premise deployment, so dictation needs a connection. Does Wispr Flow work offline? explains what that means and lists local options.
How much is Wispr Flow?
As of 3 October 2026, Pro is $15 per user per month, or $144 a year on annual billing; Growth starts at $23 per user per month and Enterprise is custom (pricing). See Wispr Flow pricing for a three-year cost table.
