What is Spokenly? Maker, free local models, Pro and privacy

Spokenly is a dictation app for Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone with free on-device models and an optional Pro cloud plan. See who makes it, costs and who it suits.

Spokenly is a voice-to-text dictation app for macOS, Windows, Linux and iPhone, operated by Inviral Tech, a company registered in Kazakhstan. Its homepage says it "uses modern cloud models by default and offers optional free on-device Whisper and Parakeet models for unlimited offline dictation". The local models are free with no word cap, using your own API keys is free of any Spokenly charge, and Pro is a paid subscription for Spokenly's own cloud models and extras.

Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.

What does Spokenly do?

Spokenly lets you dictate into apps on your computer or phone. You trigger it, speak, and the text appears where you are typing. What makes it distinctive is that it offers three routes for the speech itself:

  1. Local models (free). Whisper and Parakeet models run on your device. Spokenly's privacy policy says that with these, "Your audio recordings and transcriptions never leave your device", and the pricing page says they work "completely offline".
  2. Your own API keys (free to Spokenly). You connect an account with a provider such as OpenAI, Deepgram or Groq. The privacy policy says audio then goes "directly from your device to the provider you selected" and "never passes through Spokenly's servers". You pay the provider.
  3. Pro (paid). Spokenly's own high-accuracy cloud models, AI text cleanup, and sync across devices. The privacy policy says Spokenly's backend does "not store these recordings" and forwards them to third-party transcription services.

On top of transcription, Modes let you add AI Instructions that rewrite the text. Spokenly's privacy policy notes that a Mode with AI Instructions may send your transcription and context to AI services "even if transcription itself runs locally". Local Only Mode is a switch that, according to Spokenly's docs, disables "all network access except local model downloads" and allows connections to localhost.

Who is Spokenly for?

Based on its own pages, Spokenly suits people who:

  • want free, unlimited dictation with on-device models and no account;
  • want a single switch that blocks the app's network access;
  • already pay for an AI provider and want to use their own keys;
  • use more than one platform, including Linux and iPhone;
  • want extras such as meeting recording or voice-driven automation on the Mac.

Who may want something else?

These reasons come from Spokenly's own pages:

  • You want a written no-training commitment for cloud features. The privacy policy says Spokenly prefers "options that do not use customer data for model training where available", which is a preference rather than a guarantee. Our Spokenly safety guide covers this.
  • A vendor review needs audit reports. We found no SOC 2 report, ISO certificate or BAA on Spokenly's pages.
  • You need source code you can read. Spokenly says it is proprietary.
  • You want to pay once for Pro. Pro is listed as a subscription.

Where does SuprFlow fit?

SuprFlow, which publishes this page, is another local-speech option rather than an upgrade: speech recognition on the Mac with an on-device model, and one payment ($125 lifetime access for up to 5 Macs you own, a 7-day refund on a first purchase, no subscription). Default formatting is local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers. Optional cloud formatting sends transcript text, not audio, to the provider you pick.

SuprFlow is the wrong choice if you want local dictation for free, which Spokenly already offers. It is also the wrong choice if you need Windows, Linux or iPhone, a network-blocking switch, meeting recording, or a wide choice of models. Try Spokenly's free local models first; pay for SuprFlow only if you prefer how it works on your Mac.

Questions people ask

Is Spokenly free?

Yes, for local models and your own API keys. As of 3 October 2026, Spokenly's pricing page lists both at "$0 forever", and its FAQ says local models have "no word caps, no trial clock, and no credit card". Only Pro is paid. See Spokenly pricing.

Is Spokenly safe?

It depends on the route you choose. Spokenly says local models keep audio and transcriptions on your device, your own keys send data straight to your provider, and Pro cloud audio passes through its backend without being stored. Is Spokenly safe? explains each route and what its pages leave open.

Does Spokenly work offline?

Yes, with local Whisper or Parakeet models, which its pricing page says work "completely offline". Cloud models, your own API keys and cloud AI Instructions need a connection.

How much is Spokenly?

As of 3 October 2026, local models and your own keys cost nothing to Spokenly, and Pro is billed at $99.99 a year (shown as $8.33 a month). Spokenly says Pro bought on spokenly.app has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Spokenly pricing covers monthly, student and team prices.
