Potentially, yes. Clearing the current history file in SuprFlow does not itself remove an older version that a backup or snapshot captured. SuprFlow 1.0.0 stores up to 100 recent entries in ~/Library/Application Support/SuprFlow/transcriptionHistory.json; an entry can include raw, cleaned, and formatted text. Apple's Time Machine guidance explains that backups and local snapshots can preserve previous file states. Whether a particular transcript appears in one depends on timing, backup configuration, exclusions, and the installed release.
There is also a separate limitation in SuprFlow 1.0.0: deleting one row may not persist after the app restarts, and a pending history save can race with Clear All. A row disappearing from the app is therefore not a deletion assurance; use Clear All and check again after relaunching. The history deletion guide gives the release-specific detail.
Separate four questions
- Current app file: Is the transcript still in SuprFlow's present Application Support history file after the app settles and restarts?
- Time Machine backup disk: Did a backup run while that older file existed? If so, its previous version may remain under the backup's retention schedule.
- Local snapshots: Apple says Time Machine can maintain local snapshots on the Mac. Its exclusion guide specifically notes that excluded items can still appear in local snapshots. An exclusion alone is not proof of complete erasure.
- Other systems: A managed backup agent, synced destination document, clipboard manager, or optional hosted formatter has its own storage and deletion process.
These are different records. Removing a convenience draft from SuprFlow does not authorize removing a firm's final CRM note, matter record, or audit workpaper. Ask the records owner which copies must be retained and which temporary copies should never be made.
How an administrator can verify with synthetic text
Use a test Mac and a fictional phrase, never actual client material. Note the SuprFlow version and macOS version.
- Dictate a unique marker into a local editor, then confirm that the history file contains that entry. Avoid copying the file into a support ticket; record only the marker and result.
- Note whether Time Machine is enabled and whether a backup or local snapshot occurs while the file exists. Apple documents its local snapshots and backup exclusions, but the actual contents require a device test.
- Clear history using the installed app, close and reopen it, and check the present file again. In SuprFlow 1.0.0, do not rely on single-row deletion or a Clear All result without verification.
- If the test backup contains the earlier file, document its retention and recovery access with IT. Do not delete a backup to “fix” one transcript without the firm's backup and records approval.
- Repeat after each app update and after any managed-backup policy change.
If policy requires that sensitive drafts never enter a backup, configure retention before real dictation and validate it with a synthetic marker. Time Machine's exclusion UI is under System Settings → General → Time Machine → Options; Apple notes that excluded items can still appear in local snapshots. A firm may need additional controls or a different workflow.
Questions people ask
Does SuprFlow Clear All remove old Time Machine versions?
No. The app action concerns its current local history file. Earlier backups and snapshots are governed by macOS and the organization's backup retention rules.
If I exclude the history file from Time Machine now, are older copies gone?
An exclusion changes future backup selection; it does not prove that an earlier backup was erased. Apple's exclusion guidance also warns that excluded items can remain in local snapshots. Verify the actual backup and apply the firm's retention policy.
Does Time Machine capture every dictated sentence?
No universal conclusion follows. SuprFlow can save entries, but whether a particular state was captured depends on backup timing, configuration, and whether the file was present. Test with synthetic text.
