There is no published list price for Dragon dictation software today. As of 1 October 2026, Nuance's page for Dragon Professional v16 shows no price and directs buyers to contact sales; Dragon Professional Anywhere, Dragon Anywhere Mobile and Dragon Medical One are also sold by enquiry. And you cannot buy Dragon for a Mac: Nuance discontinued Dragon Professional Individual for Mac on 22 October 2018, and the current desktop product is Windows only.
Publisher note: SuprFlow publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Competitor details come from each company's own pages, checked on 1 October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm before you buy.
Nuance is now part of Microsoft, and its Dragon pages carry both names. Everything below comes from those pages. We have not used reseller listings.

So for every current Dragon product the honest answer to "how much does Dragon dictation software cost" is: check the current price with Nuance through the Dragon contact page.
What should you ask when you request a Dragon quote?
Because the price arrives by quote, the questions matter more than the number.
- Is this a perpetual licence or a subscription, and what is the term?
- Is the price per user, per device or per seat, and is there a minimum?
- Does it include upgrades to the next version, and support?
- Which Windows versions does it support? Nuance's page says Dragon Professional v16 is "optimized for Windows 11 and backwards-compatible to Windows 10".
- Is Nuance Management Center, which the page describes for deploying and sharing custom words and commands, included or extra?
- What are the refund or cancellation terms? The product pages do not state them.
- For clinical use: which product is being quoted? Microsoft's Dragon Medical One page promotes migrating to Dragon Copilot, so ask which one the price is for.

Can you still buy Dragon for a Mac?
No. Nuance's end-of-life notice for Dragon Professional Individual for Mac says the product was discontinued on 22 October 2018 and is no longer available for purchase. Existing version 6 customers keep a perpetual licence and may continue to use the software, but Nuance provides no further updates. Support ended 90 days after activation in North America and 180 days elsewhere.
If you searched for "Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mac" or "Dragon Dictate for Mac", this is the same answer: Nuance's current pages list no Mac edition of Dragon. The Dragon Professional page is headed "Dragon Professional (Windows)". An old copy of the Mac software has had no updates since 2018, so do not count on it running on a current Mac.
Dragon Anywhere Mobile runs on iPhone and iPad, not on macOS. Whether a cloud product such as Dragon Professional Anywhere can serve a Mac user in your organisation is a question for Nuance sales; its product page does not promise it.
What do Mac users use instead?
It depends on which Dragon job you need to replace.
| Dragon job | Mac option | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Speaking text into any app | Apple Dictation, built into macOS | Free |
| Controlling the Mac by voice: opening apps, clicking, editing | Apple Voice Control, built into macOS. Apple says standard Dictation is not available while Voice Control is on | Free |
| Push-to-talk dictation with speech recognised on the Mac | Superwhisper Free, VoiceInk, SuprFlow | $0; $25 once; $125 once |
| Dragon's custom commands, legal vocabulary and central administration | No Mac dictation app here is a like-for-like replacement. Keep Dragon on a supported Windows PC | By quote |
SuprFlow is one of the paid options, and it replaces only the first kind of job. It is a Mac menu-bar app for Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later: you hold Fn, speak and release, the speech is recognised on the Mac, and the text is pasted at the cursor with local cleanup of punctuation, capitalization and numbers. It has a personal dictionary for names and acronyms and voice snippets for stock phrases. It has no voice commands for controlling the Mac, no transcription of audio files and no team admin console, so it is not a Dragon migration. Dragon for Mac alternatives goes through the choice task by task.
How does the cost compare over one, two and three years?
List prices as of 1 October 2026, USD, one person, before tax.
| Option | How you pay | Year 1 | After 2 years | After 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon Professional v16 (Windows) | By quote | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Dragon subscriptions (Professional Anywhere, Anywhere Mobile, Medical One) | By quote | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Apple Dictation and Voice Control | Included with macOS | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Superwhisper Free | Free, local Whisper models | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| VoiceInk, one Mac | $25 once | $25 | $25 | $25 |
| SuprFlow, up to five Macs you own | $125 once | $125 | $125 | $125 |
We cannot give a break-even month against Dragon, because Nuance publishes no price to calculate from. Once you have a quote, the sum is simple: a subscription passes a one-time price in the month when the quote's monthly cost multiplied by the months used exceeds it. Remember that these rows are not equivalent products. Dragon's command system and administration tools are what its price pays for; none of the Mac apps above include them.
For plain dictation on a Mac, the free rows are the place to start. Apple's Dictation costs nothing, and a paid app is worth it only if it clearly beats the free one on your own voice and vocabulary. SuprFlow has no free tier and no trial; its 7-day refund on a first purchase is the testing window. We have not run a controlled benchmark of any of these products.
Who should pay for Dragon, and who should not?
Pay for Dragon if you work on Windows and rely on custom voice commands, shared vocabularies, batch transcription of recordings, or central administration across a team. Those are the features Nuance's page describes, and general dictation apps do not replace them.
Ask Microsoft about Dragon Medical One or Dragon Copilot if you need clinical dictation tied to an electronic health record. A general Mac dictation app is not a substitute for that.
Do not pay for Dragon if you use a Mac and want to speak text into email, documents and chat. There is no current Mac edition to buy, and macOS already includes Dictation.
