First check which microphone the Mac selected. SuprFlow 1.0.0 records from the Mac's default audio input rather than offering a separate input picker in the app. A headset connecting, disconnecting, or entering a call can therefore change what reaches the speech model. Open System Settings → Sound → Input, select the intended device, and watch the input-level meter while speaking a test sentence. Apple documents both the device list and input-volume control there.
Bluetooth can add another variable. Apple says Bluetooth headphones may switch from a high-quality listening mode to a lower-quality mode that supports both microphone input and listening when an app uses the headset microphone. That does not prove a particular SuprFlow transcription error came from Bluetooth; it explains why the audio route and microphone should be tested before changing the speech model.
Run the same sentence three ways
Use a fictional line that exposes consequential mistakes: “Mariner account forty-two did not approve twelve point five percent.” In a quiet room, dictate it three times with each device, using the same SuprFlow version, local speech model, formatter setting, and destination. Check the raw history version, not only a polished final line.
| Trial | Input selected in macOS | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| A | Mac built-in microphone | Baseline names, numbers, negation, omissions |
| B | Bluetooth headset microphone | Same words plus dropouts or clipping |
| C | Wired or USB microphone, if available | Whether errors follow Bluetooth or remain across devices |
Do not claim an accuracy percentage from three sentences. Record the material errors and whether the input level moved normally. Repeat with the room noise and speaking distance typical of actual work once the basic route is clear. A sudden change after reconnecting a headset may be a device-selection problem; a stable error on all microphones may be vocabulary, model, pronunciation, or formatter behavior.
Check before changing models
- Permission: Under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, confirm SuprFlow is allowed. Apple's recording indicator can show recent mic use, but it does not tell you which device supplied the audio.
- Selected input: In Sound → Input, look at the exact device name and level meter. If another display, webcam, or headset microphone is selected, choose the intended one and retry.
- Input level: If the meter barely moves or clips, adjust the device or input volume and speaking distance. Do not compensate for a muted or distant mic by changing an AI prompt.
- Competing app: Close or pause a call app that is using the headset mic, then retest. Apple notes that microphone use can change the Bluetooth audio mode.
- Raw versus formatted: If raw text is correct but the final line is wrong, the problem lies later in cleanup or formatting. Try Default in the installed app's Formatting screen and compare again.
For a managed law-firm or bank Mac, record the approved headset model and firmware in the pilot. Avoid using real client speech to find out whether a Bluetooth connection is reliable. If a headset causes repeatable material errors, keep that combination outside the approved workflow until it is resolved.
Questions people ask
Does SuprFlow have its own microphone selector?
No separate selector was found in SuprFlow 1.0.0; it records through the macOS system input. Check the installed release for any newer control, and confirm the selected input in macOS Sound settings.
Should I change the Whisper model when Bluetooth results get worse?
Check the input device, level, noise, and raw transcript first. If the same recorded signal is poor, switching language models may obscure an audio-route problem. Compare models only after the microphone path is stable.
Is Bluetooth always less accurate than the built-in mic?
No universal ranking follows from Apple's mode description. The headset, environment, distance, and Mac configuration matter. Use the same fictional script and count errors for the actual devices.
